Exness is an online broker that lets you trade price movements in currencies, gold and other metals, oil, stock indices, company shares and cryptocurrencies. It has been operating since 2008, and you can trade through its own app and web terminal or through MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5.
That short answer leaves out what you really need to know before you put money in: which Exness company you sign up with, how the account types differ, what trading costs you, and where Exness does not accept clients. This guide walks through each of those points in plain language.
A quick note on who we are: Partners Forex is an independent Exness partner, not Exness itself. We link to Exness's own pages throughout so you can check the current details at the source.
What Exness offers, in plain terms
Exness offers trading in CFDs, short for contracts for difference. With a CFD you never own the underlying asset. You and the broker agree to settle the difference in price between the moment you open a position and the moment you close it.
Here is a hypothetical example, not an Exness price: you buy gold because you expect it to rise. If gold rises and you close the position, you gain the difference. If gold falls, you lose the difference. The same logic applies whether you trade a currency pair, an index or a share.
On its homepage, Exness shows examples of what you can trade, such as:
- Gold against the US dollar (XAUUSD)
- The euro against the US dollar (EURUSD)
- Crude oil (USOIL)
- An index of large US companies (US30)
- Shares of well-known companies such as Amazon (AMZN)
Exness describes itself as a multi-asset broker, which simply means it covers several asset classes from one account.
How trading with Exness works, step by step
The basic flow is the same for almost everyone:
- Register. You sign up with an email address or phone number and choose your country of residence. Your country decides which Exness company will hold your account.
- Verify your identity. Exness asks for an identity document and proof of address before it unlocks every feature. Regulated brokers are required to do this.
- Choose an account type. Most beginners start with a Standard or Standard Cent account. Experienced traders often look at the professional accounts.
- Deposit. You fund the account with a local payment method, a bank card, an e-wallet or crypto. The methods you see depend on your country.
- Pick a platform. Trade in the Exness Trade app, the Exness Terminal in your browser, or MetaTrader 4 or 5.
- Trade and manage risk. Open positions, set a stop loss and a take profit, and keep an eye on your margin level.
- Withdraw. Profits go back out through your payment method. Exness says most withdrawals are processed automatically, so many requests do not wait for manual review.
Exness account types at a glance
Exness splits its live accounts into Standard accounts and Professional accounts. The Exness Help Center describes them like this:
- Standard Cent: balances are shown in US cents, there is no commission, and there is no fixed minimum deposit. It suits very small balances and testing a strategy with real money.
- Standard: no commission and no fixed minimum deposit. Your cost is built into the spread, and it covers currencies, metals, crypto, energies, stocks and indices.
- Pro: tighter spreads than Standard and no commission, with a minimum first deposit set by region.
- Raw Spread: very low spreads plus a fixed commission per lot, with a minimum first deposit set by region.
- Zero: zero spread on many popular instruments plus a commission per lot, with a minimum first deposit set by region.
Each payment method also has its own minimum, and the first deposit can differ from later ones. Exness explains this in its minimum deposit article, and you see the exact amounts for your country in your Personal Area after you log in.
A simple way to choose: if you are new, start small on Standard Cent or Standard. Move to Pro, Raw Spread or Zero only when you trade often enough for lower spreads or commissions to make a real difference to your results.
Platforms and apps you can use
Exness gives you several ways to trade, and you can use the same account across them:
- Exness Trade app for Android and iPhone, built for trading on the move.
- Exness Terminal, a web platform that runs in your browser with nothing to install.
- MetaTrader 5 and MetaTrader 4 on desktop and mobile, popular with traders who use indicators and automated strategies (Expert Advisors).
- MetaTrader WebTerminal if you like MetaTrader but do not want to install it.
If you are not sure where to start, the browser terminal or the app is the easiest. MetaTrader gives you more tools once you know what you need.
Who regulates Exness
Exness is not a single company. It is a group of companies, each licensed in a different jurisdiction, and the one you deal with depends on where you live. The Exness regulation page lists its entities and the regulators that supervise them, including:
- The Financial Services Authority of Seychelles
- The Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) in South Africa
- The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) in Kenya
- The Jordan Securities Commission
- The Central Bank of Curaçao and Sint Maarten
- The Financial Services Commission of the British Virgin Islands
Exness also has companies regulated by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority and by CySEC in Cyprus, but its regulation page states that these do not provide services to retail clients. For a regular trader in most of Asia, Africa or the Middle East, the account usually sits with one of the regional or offshore entities.
Your client agreement names the exact company you are dealing with. Read it before you deposit, and check that company on the regulator's own register.
How Exness makes money
Like most retail brokers, Exness earns from your trading activity rather than from a subscription:
- Spreads: the gap between the buy and sell price. On Standard accounts this is the main cost.
- Commissions: charged per lot on Raw Spread and Zero accounts in exchange for very tight spreads.
- Swaps: overnight financing charges when you hold a position past the daily rollover. Exness offers swap-free conditions on many popular instruments, and the details depend on the instrument and your account.
Deposit and withdrawal fees depend on the payment method, so check the details shown next to each method in your Personal Area before you use it.
Leverage: the part to respect
Leverage lets you control a larger position with a smaller deposit. Exness offers very high leverage settings, including an unlimited leverage option. That option is only available under strict conditions set out in the Exness Help Center: your account equity has to stay below a set limit, you need some trading history first, and only certain instruments qualify. Clients of some entities, such as the Kenyan one, have a lower maximum. Exness also raises margin requirements at certain times, which it explains in its Help Center.
High leverage cuts both ways. A small move against you can wipe out your margin quickly. A sensible habit for beginners is to size each position so that a single trade risks only a small part of the account, whatever leverage the platform allows.
Where Exness is not available
Exness does not accept clients from every country. Its regulation page names several where it does not provide services, including the United States, Canada, Iran, North Korea, Russia and Belarus, and its entities do not serve retail clients in the UK or the European Union.
Two recent changes are worth knowing:
- India: Exness stopped accepting new registrations from India in July 2025. Existing users could still log in at the time, but new sign-ups were not offered.
- Copy Trading: Exness phased out its Copy Trading service during 2026. New investments stopped in February 2026 and the remaining investments were closed in June 2026.
Availability can change, so the most reliable check is to start the registration and see whether your country appears, or to ask Exness support directly.
Who Exness suits, and who it may not
Exness tends to suit you if:
- You want to start with a small balance and grow gradually.
- You mostly trade currencies and gold and care about trading costs.
- You want local payment methods and largely automated withdrawals.
It may not suit you if:
- You live in a country Exness does not serve, or you want to be a retail client of a UK or EU regulated entity.
- You want to buy and hold real shares or real crypto rather than trade CFDs.
- You are not ready to accept the risk of losing the money you deposit.
Frequently asked questions
Is Exness a real broker or a scam?
Exness is a real, licensed broker group that has operated since 2008, with entities supervised by regulators such as the FSCA in South Africa, the CMA in Kenya and the Financial Services Authority of Seychelles. Scams that misuse the Exness name do exist, so only use the official website and the official app.
What is the minimum deposit on Exness?
Standard and Standard Cent accounts have no fixed minimum, but each payment method has its own minimum. Professional accounts require a higher first deposit that depends on your region. Log in to your Personal Area to see the exact amounts for your country and payment method.
Can I use Exness in my country?
It depends on where you live. Exness does not provide services to residents of the US, Canada and several other countries, does not serve retail clients in the UK and the EU, and paused new sign-ups in India in July 2025. The registration form will show whether your country is supported.
Does Exness still offer copy trading?
No. Exness wound down its Copy Trading service in 2026, and the remaining investments were closed in June 2026. Traders now manage their own trading accounts.
Before you trade
Trading CFDs on margin carries a high risk of losing money quickly. Exness's own risk warning says traders are likely to incur losses that exceed the potential for profits. Only trade with money you can afford to lose, start with a demo or a small account, and read Exness's documents for the conditions that apply to you. You can find the official details on the Exness Login.
